Point of Departure is considered by many to be a milestone in hard bop jazz. Recorded in 1964, the album features Eric Dolphy and Joe Henderson on sax, Kenny Dorham on trumpet, Richard Davis on bass, Anthony Williams on drums, and Andrew Hill on piano. The compositions are fresh and lively. Sometimes, the recordings are a bit too avant garde for my taste, but I’m a jazz novice.
