Could've watched 2 hours of commercials instead — 8 weeks ago

I’m not a Michael Bay fan – I think he’s all about explosions and overthetop action at the expense of plot.
But I love scifi movies & I like Ewan McGregor so I rented it anyway.
The plot was ok. Sort of a Logans Run meets THX1138.

But the constant stream of obvious pointed product placement the entire length of the film was revolting!

Additionally, any film made in my lifetime makes a joke about not giving women credit cards can not be a film I would recommend to anyone.

WORTH CONSUMING!

This movie is unlike most action films because although there are some plot flaws,—like getting all of the workers to cooperate, use of slang, etc—it works for the time it has. Its a mix of so many dystopian books like 1984, Brave New World, A Handmaid’s Tale, Waiting for the Barbarians, etc. Finally a complex plot that provides critical thought and awesome action scenes.

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

Not bad. There’s too much action for my taste, the cloning thing is
not well executed enough and the dialogs are poorly written. But it has some funny moments, some well made special effects and action scenes and great performances.

PS: I wanted to give this a wishy washy but I gave it a not worth consuming at first and now I can’t change it.

WORTH CONSUMING!

I actually liked this better second time around – probably because my expectations were lower! It is a film that doesn’t quite live up to the sum of its parts: great cast list (Ewan McGregor, Sean Bean, Djimon Hounsou (who should be in more films!), Steve Buscemi… oh yeah, and that drippy Scarlet bird), and an interesting premise. Sadly the futuristic sci-fi never feels solid, the lead’s American accent is distracting, and it just doesn’t come together.

That said, and especially going into it know all those things, there are some interesting ideas to ponder (if not really explored in the film); some of the scenery/sets are cool; and there’s a couple of actually quite entertainingly destructive car chases. Sadly Ewan doesn’t look his usual lush self, even during moments of dasterdly Scottishness ;)

WORTH CONSUMING!

I would definitely watch this movie again. Ewan McGregor and Scarlett Johanssen are two of my favorites, so seeing them together in a film was a real bonus. I liked the sci-fi, because it was a fun plot. I thought they did all they could with their storyline (whereas other movies have great plots and totally fall short, i.e. The Butterfly Effect). Adam didn’t like that it was only set in 2019, because he felt the setting was too far advanced for such a short jump into the future—but I just enjoyed it, period.

It’s not a really bad movie, or anything. But it is lengthy. Like Equilibrium, I found the plot too far-fetched and insufficiently interesting; I didn’t care about the characters. It did bring to mind Logan’s Run, which is one of my all-time favorite science fiction movies.

On the good side there were a few very funny moments in this film, check out the quotes at IMDB:

Lincoln Six-Echo: What’s “God”?
McCord: Well, you know, when you want something really bad and you close your eyes and you wish for it? God’s the guy that ignores you.

Steve Buscemi as McCord is very good!

WORTH CONSUMING!

This is not just a mindless action movie. It’s an exciting action-adventure with some very real questions posed.

It really makes you think… and shows you some of the conflicts we’re going to have as science advances. Is cloning humans okay, do clones have souls, are they real people, etc.

It really shows you’ll do anything to stay alive, and that people will ruin others lives just to live a couple extra years.

I loved it.

WORTH CONSUMING!

This was Awesome. I loved it – have to buy it on DVD. It sort of reminds me of Logun’s Run.

WORTH CONSUMING!

From Michael Bay, the same guy that directed the history-raping movie Pearl Harbour, or the insipid Armageddon you’d expect nothing much. Still, The Island takes a story of corporate greed and advances in cloning techniques and presents a not impossible future excess, with a hero discovering and fighting the horrible truth.

It’s not a worldshaking epic but certainly enjoyable.

WORTH CONSUMING!

It was good, I have seen better things, but it wasn’t the worst. Finally… it was exciting and funny a bit too.
