Very Intense prison drama about a baby-face becoming Big Dog. It’s true: You go in knowing nothing, and come out king of everything. Un Prophete doesn’t let up – from start to finish something bad (or something that will inevitably be bad) is going down. Double cross upon double cross is the name of the game. Points for making even the usually mundane violent. This film isn’t for the faint of heart.

PS. I’m beginning to wonder what the current crop of French filmmakers are on to. They’re delivering quite a bit of heavy cinema.
