I avoided this album for a really stupid reason: because I really didn’t like the title. like the old adage, “don’t judge a book by its cover”, don’t judge an album by its name. Maggot Brain is a really solid album, with great explorations of rock, soul, R&B, and of course, funk. And the ten minute title track is ASTOUNDINGLYGOOD. The first time I heard it, I had to stop everything I was doing and just listen to it. Eddie Hazel’s guitar work is just incredible, one of the best guitar solos I’ve ever heard. A fantastic album by George Clinton & Co., and a must-listen for the musical adventurer.

Quite possibly the oddest album opening I’ve EVER heard. The Hendrix-y first track is probably overlong, but I’m liking this one so far…Kinda reminds me of Sly and the Family Stone a bit..that “psychedelic” soul sound.
