MySpace is pretty fun — 26 weeks ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

I’m always up for trying new things, so when I was invited to two social networking sites, I figured it would be fun to try them out. There’s a lot of these out there now, and as of this moment, I’m only on two.

One of those sites I signed up for was MySpace. My mom ran into my cousin, and she gave my mom her MySpace name and asked that she and I contact her through MySpace. My mom already had a MySpace account, but I hadn’t yet set one up for myself, so I did it. MySpace isn’t as easy to use as Tagged, but it isn’t as chuck full of ads, which is a big plus in my book. It also has a lot of really cute features, such as the music player that can be themed to display a girl moving her head along with the music that you choose for your page. I’m a sucker for cute little things like that. :)

Both Tagged and MySpace offer blogging abilities, but I doubt that I’ll use them much, as I really enjoy blogging at Wordpress.

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

Can someone please explain to me why this is such a big deal? It allows you to all the same things Friendster or Tribe did- 4 years ago!

WORTH CONSUMING!

MySpace is so much fun and addictive it’s painful. The people complaining that too many people are there are just being whiny because they always have to be somewhere they can feel elite and smug.

Why I want to consume this — 2 years ago

My kids got me onto myspace, mostly just to see what they were up to. (They’re grown, the baby is 21 now and the oldest just turned 30.) Eventually I found people I knew online and decided maybe I should do something with my myspace account. With my obsessive compulsive nature, myspace was the perfect extension from 43Things. I’ve been enjoying editing and adding features. Now I have a blog for holistic healing and spirituality, a group for events related to these in North Texas, blog groups (of course), a music playlist, and lots of other stuff. I choose to edit my profile manually to improve load time. (I tire quickly of all those pages that take forever to load.)

I’m enjoying using myspace and meeting new people.

myspace was kind of awesome until everyone you’ve ever met got on and posted pictures of themselves in their underwear.
i don’t need to see this.

A story about this — 2 years ago

I’ve had a Myspace for almost 2 years, and it was splendid when nobody knew about it. Then the “Myspace Fever” swept the whole freakin’ nation and now I can’t even go out in public without hearing some mention of the dreaded “M” word. It’s a cool place, yeah. But when it starts taking over your social life and you begin to talk about it over your cocktail, it’s time to let it go.

WORTH CONSUMING!

I had a myspace account for a long time but didn’t use it. Then a couple of close friends and my boyfriend started using it. I’ve learned that this site is what you make of it. It can be very trashy or it can be one of the best tools for keeping in touch with those you care about-as well as those who might not live close to you anymore.

WORTH CONSUMING!

My approval of MySpace is NOT emphatic, despite the exclamation point. I’m getting annoyed with the many, many, many social networking blahdeeblah things out there, and my friends pressure me into signing up for all of them. Friendster, myspace, msn spaces, livejournal, blogger… good god in heaven, make it stop. (Okay, I do swear fealty to Blogger, don’t mean to lump it with the other things.)

I’m mostly excited about MySpace because other people are getting excited enough to emerge from their hidey holes and rejoin the living and get back in touch with their favorite JoBiv. I’m down wid dat, yo.

I like Myspace. But then again, I tend to like most of these community/networking websites. Which is probably why most of us are on 43T, allconsuming, and the rest.

It’s fun to comment on friends’ pages, read blogs, look at pictures, and just check out random bands and random groups. Networking sites are just another bit of simple fun, another way for human beings to connect with one another.

I use to be on Meetup.com and when it changed, most people abandoned it. Before this, someone suggested we all go to myspace. Not knowing of this, I checked it out. The one good thing I’ve gotten out of this was to use the blog for updates on shows I’m in and to keep in touch with people I hadn’t seen in so long. It’s a good and bad site, but it’s the Wal-Mart of the internet.

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

Myspace was my first attempt at a blog, and it was alright at first, until they banned me for some profanity, and blocked access to my blog. God that pissed me off. Now I’m with blogger. And it’s so much better, it hurts.
