A story about the last time I consumed this — 2 years ago

I can’t stand Cameron Diaz. I think she’s overrated in about ninety-four ways. That being said, I went into this movie expecting to hate it. And we all know what happens when you approach a movie with such an attitude; either your feelings will be justified, or the movie will blow away all your expectations.

In Her Shoes wasn’t a great movie, by any means. But it was so much better than I expected. Well, the first half was pretty much what I expected, but about midway the movie really began to develop a plot. And-chick flick aficionados beware-an original plot without many cliches. And Diaz wasn’t half bad. I would’ve preferred she kept her clothes on a bit more as it seemed way excessive, but the acting was the best I’ve seen from her.

Predictable, but with some nice splashes — 2 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

The first time I tried to watch In Her Shoes I was on an airplane and fell asleep. So all I really remembered about it was that it was a good sleeping pill. Today I was on an airplane again and got another shot at this movie. The first half didn’t really do much for me. The plot was predictable and pretty unoriginal.

There were a few moments that kept me watching though. The combination of wild sister Magie in a retirement home were entertaining at times. But what I really liked was a poem that Magie reads calles One Art (The art of losing isn’t hard to master; so many things seem filled with the intent to be lost that their loss is no disaster…). That poem is beautiful, and getting to know it for me was worth watching the movie.

I totally forgot that I had already watched this until I watched it again yesterday. So . . . that probably sums it up best for me: Totally Forgetable.

WORTH CONSUMING!

here’s the poem from the movie:

e.e. Cummings – i carry your heart

i carry your heart with me(i carry it in

my heart)i am never without it(anywhere

i go you go,my dear;and whatever is done

by only me is your doing,my darling)

i fear

no fate(for you are my fate,my sweet)i want

no world(for beautiful you are my world,my true)

and it’s you are whatever a moon has always meant

and whatever a sun will always sing is you

here is the deepest secret nobody knows

(here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud

and the sky of the sky of a tree called life;which grows

higher than soul can hope or mind can hide)

and this is the wonder that’s keeping the stars apart

i carry your heart(i carry it in my heart)

WORTH CONSUMING!

I’ve seen this movie before, but watched it again with a group of girlfriends last night, after a delicious Thai meal. I really like this movie. I like it’s messages: that we’re all capable of change, that what is right for one person isn’t necessarily right for the next, that we’re all lovable. It’s not overly taking mentally, and you feel great after having watched it. I’m reliably told that the book is at least as good – so I’m going to add it to my “to read” list.

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

I didn’t think much of the book, but the movie was worse. I didn’t expect anything from the movie (I have a strange compulsion to see movies based on books I’ve read, even when the books weren’t good), but it was below my expectations. I’m glad I spent the whole movie only half-paying attention and doing stuff online.
