A story about this — 3 years ago
This was the second time that I’ve watched Merci Pour le Chocolat. It’s not a favorite… the atmosphere is done well; that feeling of a tense repression. Isabelle Huppert does her usual fantastic job. In the commentary that comes with the DVD, Chabrol says he wanted to do a study in perversity. What I find dissatisfying about the movie is the apparent lack of motive for the criminal’s activities. I guess that’s what Chabrol meant by perversity… more along the lines of psychopathy.
