A story about this — 32 weeks ago
It is kind of absurd to have to choose between “I am consuming” and “I have consumed” when it comes to music. If I like it, I will continue consuming it over time. Anyway… I really like this album. I do a poor job describing how I feel about music, so I’m going to borrow from some reviews that I’ve read about it. One writer described it as inoffensive and that is absolutely correct. It’s an album I’d put on for a stranger, could play without worrying about the reaction of customers in the store I work in (not that I normally care), could play over speakers instead of with headphones in the office… It’s just good. It’s also really easy to relate to, and that can be summed up by a line in Brian Howe’s Pitchfork review of the album: “Sarcasm seems to be a defense mechanism for Campbell, one that’s necessary because of two very pronounced and conflicting personality traits. On one hand, she’s a hopeless romantic. On the other, she’s very cautious, and somewhat pessimistic.” This describes me, pretty much right on.
I picture myself listening to this album on a bus, windows down, somewhere between Mexico and Chile.
