The third book in the Deep Haven series introduces us to the gustiest heroine of the series. I really liked Ellie because she did everything she could to prove that she was good enough to be fire chief. It was cool to read about a female firefighter who can stand up to the tough guys. It was great seeing characters from the other books pop in and make appearances. I still really want to visit the bookstore and hang out there for a day. It was also good to finally read about Dan’s story as he’s popped up in the other books before. Volunteer firefighting just amazes me because people risk their lives and don’t get paid for it! The part that I had trouble with was the constant resistance to the men’s acceptance to Ellie as their chief. While I can understand that some men have problems with this, it just kept irking me that it doesn’t matter how far women can go, we will always be looked at as inferior because of our gender. Thus my disappointment with the ending of the book. It just made me feel that Deep Haven is not the place to be if you are a women and want to be in a higher up position. I just don’t like the chauvinistic attitudes of the men. I did enjoy the book though. I did like the story, the chemistry between Ellie and Dan is great. The mystery is played out very well. I learned a lot about firefighting too, they are incredible and extremely brave for what they do. I have extreme respect for them, it’s definitely a job I could never perform myself. I wish there would be another book in the series. I feel that Liza needs her story told as well. Perhaps one day….
