I think this is the first Woody Allen film I’ve ever watched all the way through – and likely to be my last. I just don’t ‘get’ what’s so brilliant about it all. Personally, I thought the idea – one story, told two ways, as comedy and tragedy – was fantastic. And yet it totally bored me, and even the ‘funny’ half was pretty depressing, really. All of the characters were pretty vile, in their own ways.

It’s bizarre to watch Will Ferrell play a typical Woody Allen character.

And I know that this is my own crazy super power, but the actress playing Melinda is clearly from Australia and her accent is alright but the intonation still has that lilting Aussie style which constantly distracts me. (I had to stop watching the series “Without A Trace” because there’s rarely an actor on screen whose accent is natural.)

This isn’t my favorite Woody Allen movie, but it was alright. Melinda herself was irritating, but I liked the frame of the story. It wasn’t as bad as Celebrity, definitely my least favorite Woody film.

The awkward artificial dialogue made it tiring to watch. The tragic/comedy switching cancelled each other out.

I’m telling you do not waste your time. It was awful.
