Romance in a Many Worlds Interpretation — 46 weeks ago

Not philosophically boggling, Sliding Doors is a good introduction to the concept of alternate timelines or Many Worlds Interpretation, if you haven’t been exposed to these already.

In Sliding Doors, the timelines intersect in space: the same person is often in the same place in the two alternate timelines. While this may be cinematically delicious, it reeks of fate/destiny and goes against the predictions of chaos theory. For this reason, I recommend watching The Butterfly Effect instead, and some romantic flick other than Serendipity, which also promotes the ideas of fate and life as a deliberate puzzle.

How this changed my life — 1 year ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

It made me think of the little things, like what would’ve happened had I missed my bus, or if I had caught it? Or if I called in sick, how something so minor could affect the rest of my life. I didn’t expect this movie to be so fascinating to me. I don’t remember how I came upon this gem, but I really liked it.

Why I recommend this — 3 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

Seeing for a second or third time I am still enjoying it. Each time there is a new something I’ve missed before or I get a different reading from their emotions.

It’s also fascinating to see what the film pulls off with such a small budget and setting it in London. It made me look at the place with new eyes. Plus I do like dear Gwynnie.

Kieslowski — 3 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

Any movie based on a Kieslowski movie (“Blind Chance” in this case) has got to be good, and this movie is no exception.
