In retrospect, I think I bought this book more for the promises that it held, rather than what I thought I could usefully get out of it.
The author uses her knowledge of Austen’s works (having researched them academically) to illustrate what to, and what not to do, in today’s dating game.
Argues that with a few tweaks, Austen’s depictions of the courting couples in the Regency period are just as valid and useful today as they were then. Also uses ‘real-life’ couples’ situations as illustrations of the ‘yes’ and ‘no’ versions of how to deal with scenarios such as being overeager, or being too restrained, or knowing when to get out of a relationship.
Has quizzes at the back of which character you’re likely to be (I was Elizabeth Bennet), or which character you’re most likely to get along with (duh as for who I’m most likely to dig if I’m Elizabeth!).
Trouble is, I found it somewhat lacking in substance and found myself reading it more for the sake of finishing it rather than anything else.
Wouldn’t recommend it much. Maybe if you borrowed it from someone.
