I had originally labelled this book as being worth consuming, as it was pleasant enough to read but after some thought I decided to change my opinion. People who aren’t familiar with Jeff Buckley won’t understand that DeBartolo modeled Jacob Grace after him and that events in the book parallel those in Buckley’s life. I mean, Jesus, the book is even dedicated to him. I can’t pretend to think that it’s a fitting homage to the man, though I’m sure most people will disagree and think this book is “TEH BEST EVAR
!” but I found it to be ridden with tired cliches (especially in regard to Los Angeles) and one-dimensional characters. I also found it too predictable, and I’m not even referring to the prophetic demise offered on the first page.
