Hardboiled, Hard Luck and god aweful Hard to finish! — 2 years ago

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

Hardboiled & Hard Luck is actually two short stories plopped together into one book. I am torn between giving this book a good review or an aweful one. I loved Hardboiled, it was a great story and well worth reading. Hard Luck on the other hand was a really long drawn out bore. It gives you the same feeling as if you were watching a scene that took an hour instead of 5mins.

The begining of the book (Hardboiled) has an eerie supernatural feel to it. The main character is hiking through the mountains when she realizes its the anniversary of her ex-lovers death. Various incidents haunt her through out the day including dreams of her ex-lover, a visit from the local ghost and mysterious black rocks that follow her where ever she goes.

The second story (Hard Luck) is with the same main character and a long drawn out death of her sister, Kuni who lies in a coma, brain dead. The real plot is in the relationship of Kuni’s finance’s brother who visits Kuni in the hospital, to get to the main character. Problem is, I don’t really understand if theres a relationship at all here since their common interest is in the lifeless Kuni. Believe me it was unnessarry addition to the book.

If you’re going to read Hardboiled & Hard Luck go ahead and read the first section of it but don’t read the second part with much aticpation. You may think you’ll find answer in Hard Luck but remember Hardboiled ends on page 89.
