It’s like Strictly Ballroom meets a dash of Dangerous Minds. Not the best dance movie I’ve seen, but there’s more to this movie than just the dance bit. The plot and characters are quite alright.

While there are some dark moments, overall this is an uplifting movie about teens learning to respect themselves with dance. Great dance numbers.

If you secretly (or not so secretly) loved Sister Act 2, Save the Last Dance, Finding Forrester, Fame, or ANY movie in which an unlikely teacher directs a wayward teen towards self-expression and self-esteem while the teacher learns something about him/herself in the process, this movie is for you.
Yes, it gets corny. Yes, there are vast dance numbers. Yes, oh yes, Antonio Banderas learns how to groove with inner city teens… How could it get better?
For a movie that’s supposed to be about dancing there isn’t enough of it featured. Could’ve been waaay better without the bad b-plots (which go no where) and close-ups and quick cuts during most of the dance sequences. Not good but not terrible, either.
