WORTH CONSUMING!

Let me first start by saying I loved this book. I felt it’s one of the best Dekker has ever written. However, this was one of the most disturbing books I have ever read. It makes one think about how one really values life. The scenes in Iraq were painful to read because it was so realistic. Just like in the story, events like that probably happen every day and us Americans never think twice about it because it’s not happening to us. I felt most of the characters to be very self centered. Eventually they learn to grow as characters but they find themselves in the situations they are in because of their selfishness. Reading about serial killers always pushes my boundaries. It scares, disgusts and fascinates me all at the same time as to why they do the things they do. It also intrigues me how an author can allow themselves to get into the mindset of a killer and come out still being normal.

The book is quite violent but it is not gory. It’s more implied and forces you to use your imagination which can sometimes make the scene worse. There are times when you want to stop reading and just skip over some scenes because they can be quite disturbing (warning: do not eat food while reading this book). I found myself squirming several times while reading this book. However at the same time, it makes you think how far will you go to save someone you love?

This book really puts Dekker in the same league as other mainstream writers. He’s able to put out a good story that keeps you wanting more without using gore, harsh language (there is some minor cursing) and sex. There is a faith element running throughout the book but it’s not preachy and won’t offend non Christians who read this book. If you are looking for a book that will give you a thrill ride and put you on the edge of your seat, you must read this book. VERY HIGHLY recommended.

Unfortunately I never want to see or use Noxzema ever again.
