I can see why this story is attractive for all the lonely girls/women out there, but it’s a little too cheesy for my taste. The marketing of this is just too obvious – a new girl in town who is so irresistible that she has not only the attention of the whole school, but also has two hot guys on her in an instant. What girl wouldn’t want two guys to fight over her, and end up with an eternal love? Especially the love of someone as good looking as Robert Pattinson?
(Sidenote, why do all of the actors in this movie mistake acting out “attraction” with “looking like they’re going to vomit”?)
The only other problem I had with the movie was that it felt like nothing was really going on. When it ended, I couldn’t believe that that’s all there was. (I felt the same with the early Harry Potter movies too, being a huge fan of the books, but as they went along it felt more solid.)
I didn’t have a problem with the glittery vampire the way a lot of people did…my sister described it as “a modern take on vampire folklore” and I’d have to agree that it worked. It wasn’t Mariah Carey glitter, it was more of a shiny glow that kind of reminded me of melting skin, and isn’t that kind of what happens to vampires when they go in the sun?
Really, this movie isn’t something I HAD to turn off…it was entertaining enough to watch all the way through, and the love story is compelling enough to want to see through to another movie.
