Masterpiece Theatre lead its new season with a marvelous production of Thomas Hardy’s Tess of the D’Urbervilles. The two-part series was steadfastly true to the novel. The producers took only minor liberties with the plot. The actress who portrays Tess won me over. It’s unfortunate that the actor who plays Alec D’Urberville looks so much better naked than Angel Clare. I guess those rakes have to have something in their favor. You’ll want to watch this with a box of tissues.
