Far afield from his usual swing stuff, this is his “pop” album..at least how pop sounds on Neptune. There’s a Nawlins march number, something that sounds like 80s band Art of Noise, some funk numbers…it’s all over the place. Lest you think I’m trying to talk you out of it, I’m not…I actually like the album. But it’s not an “everyday” kind of listen. Definitely one you have to be in the right mood for.
