The one bone I have to pick with Blogger is that it doesn’t support assigning a category – or keywords – to a blog posting.
MySpace, Friendster – most other blogs, in fact – they support that. Google doesn’t. They point out you can use Technorati tags – but that’s a sort of misdirection.
You want people to be able to get to all the postings on your blog that are related to a particular topic. That’s because they might want to read more about whatever it is that drew them to your blog in the first place.
Originally, I had a several things I did not like about the formatting my Blogger template was doing. After a year, I couldn’t take it anymore so I went in and changed the CSS show it had the visual appearance I wanted it to have. Now, I like it.
There are a number of other great features. It is easy to get started, the stock templates look really good (well, okay 90 percent good), and they support blogging client applications.
They also let you do a newsfeed of your blog. It uses the Atom newsfeed format.
So, while it isn’t perfect, it’s pretty good.
The fact that they let you customize the CSS used with your weblog is more satisfying that being totally stuck with a stock template’s CSS. Oh, and the fact it is free – can’t beat that either!
