I took my wife to see Last Chance Harvey because it had Emma Thompson, whom she likes, and it looked like an okay romantic comedy. It wasn’t much of a comedy, actually: I don’t know if it was SUPPOSED to be, but it’s very rarely funny. Overall we both found it a pretty fluff movie, actually, and the two lead actors – Thompson and Dustin Hoffman – were playing parts that were WAY below them. Sometimes they succeeded in making the movie come to life despite the trite material and presentation, but usually it was just so-so. Not awful, but nothing I would want to see again.
