NOT WORTH CONSUMING

I love Wolverine. He is my favorite X-Men character and, because the X-Men are my favorite comic book superteam, Wolverine is my favorite superhero. What this movie attempted to do was reveal the mystery behind Wolverine.

From the credit sequence, this movies plot fell apart like a house of cards. I am not even sure where to start. There were too many characters. The action sequences seemed too unfathomable, even for a comic book movie. The plot was complicated and had too many holes in it.

In the end, this movie gives Wolverine’s entire back story. Any attempt to reveal a mysterious characters history is doomed to failure, but this was ridiculous.

WORTH CONSUMING!

a little cheesier than the previous three movies, but still enjoyable. i was a little bummed about gambit’s portrayal…did anyone else notice how sometimes his accent was there and sometimes not? i just always thought he was kind of cool in the cartoon.

WORTH CONSUMING!

I would like to reccommend this because it kept me going throughout the movie. I was never bored. However, the story was a little wild. And also, when mentioning the major US wars in which Wolverine fought, they forgot Korea, which is sad. Got a lot of respect for the special effects crew.

2.5 stars in yer eyes — 2 years ago

Ok bit of action-romance (yep, you read that right) for the comic book/Hugh Jackman makes me swoon set. While we’ve all been dreading how badly they’d make a movie of Origins – when has a movie adaptation been better than the book? – this flick’s all yawns up until the Wolverine phase. And then it’s only slightly boring.

It’s been years since I’ve read up on my X-Men lore, but was Gambit really that much involved or is that backstory fabrication? The love angle dulled things for me a little, sure, we know about Logan’s lost loves – but direction could’ve handled it smoother. Or maybe they’ll fix that in Origins part 2? Let’s fast forward to many years from now when they reboot this franchise and put out decent product. Next!

WORTH CONSUMING!

After looking forward to this for ages, I made the mistake of looking at the Empire review – 2 stars?! Oh noes!!

However, I’m pleased to report that it’s really not that bad. Disappointingly not as good as it could have been, but after a slow and rather garbled beginning it does get good! Pretty much at the point Wolverine gets his metal, actually…

Good: the action set pieces are great.

Poor: so many underused characters! And Empire was right: who cares how Wolverine got his jacket?!

Depends on your point of view: eye candy! Hugh Jackman is a bit overly bulked up, and Ryan Reynolds is barely in it. Still.

Overall: I like the world of the X-Men, and once this film got going properly it was oodles of (post-exam!) fun :) Ties in quite well with the previous movies, all set later, too – benefit of having the world/stories mapped out ahead of time. I enjoyed it enough to want to give it four stars, but really it’s probably only a 3-star movie. I’ll still watch it again.

Look out for a post-credit scene, too.
