A story about this — 2 years ago
I saw the Movie Pure Country, hadn’t listened to Country since about 1982, bought this album and listened to it on my MP3 while working. Loved it, got a George Jones Album, then a Ricky Skaggs w/Kentucky Thunder, Sara Evans’ Three Chords, and Willie Nelson’s Home is Where You’re Happy…Put em all on my player, randomized it and listened every workday for about 5 months til I knew every note. Bought an acoustic guitar and looked up the tabs, can now, 6 months later play every song. Have not memorized them, I have to read the tabs, but I did learn all the chords I needed and then some. Am still working on it every day, and George did it. Ironically it was being depressed by a song by him when my parents split up that made me stop listening to country. I’ve since been collecting tablature and albums of classic country and some new stuff. It IS corny and sentimental but I guess I am too. You don’t have to like country music, but if there’s not some element of corny and sentimental in you, you’re probably an assh*, and you’re probably just repressing it anyway, that’s where angry, angsty music comes from, and that’s ok, you need what you need, just remember there are two wolves fighting inside you, the one you feed is the one that wins.
