When you step off the plane in Vegas and win at your first attempt at the slot machines in the airport, you should step right back on the plane and head back. That town of sin will get her pound of flesh one way or another and so the story goes.
If Parker is “a mechanic”, devoted to this life of crime and the existence outside the law, Groefield is always a more ambiguous figure. He has pretensions to a second life, to art, to the theatre that he runs. But crime finances things and when you run dry, you either run check cashing scams or pull scores. Groefield is a professional when in that mode but it is just his luck to have run into Myers – insane, bold, unprofessional and what’s worse so trigger-happy and brazen enough that he manages to pull through. Off kilter during this riotous ride, Groefield pays a heavy price. The lemons never lied, pay heed to them.
