WORTH CONSUMING!

I can’t believe this movie is almost a quarter of a century old – well, I can, as I really can’t see something similar being made these days! Funny how much movie styles have changed during my life – I don’t feel that old!

Anyway, wanted to see this as it’s one of those modern-ish semi-classics that people just seem to know about, whether they’ve see it or not. Harrison Ford, Amish people, check.

What surprised me was the balance between the ‘thriller’ and the more romantic elements – definitely heavier on the later, to the point where the reintroduction of the former is just odd. And yet it’s all so subtle: a remake, I’m sure, would crank up the fish out of water-ness, ramp up the heaving bossom and electric sparks of eye contact, etc etc. And the end would have to spelled out completely, no letting an audience guess what might happen next at all.

Yup, definitely a period piece in so many ways.

A question I have about this — 3 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

It’s been years since I’d seen this movie, and I’d forgotten nearly everything about it. I am now left wondering why it is that the Amish came running when the boy rang the bell, but didn’t haul ass over the hill when the gunshots rang out. Wouldn’t the sound of gunshots in amish paradise be more out of the ordinary then a bell ringing? I mean, it’s not like they hear the sound of those bells every day of their life or anything…
