WORTH CONSUMING!

I remember watching this years and years ago, with absolutely no knowledge of the books/story. And despite being a nutty, confuzzling mess, it left quite the impression! Now, deep into the original and follow-on series of reading, how could I not rewatch the movie?

Knowing the story already does help a lot, but at the same time it didn’t help the overall movie. Or perhaps this kind of thing just works better when you’re 13! Mostly it gets full marks for trying, and for the impressive cast, but I think you have to go into it already a fan.

WORTH CONSUMING!

This is one of my group of friends’ favorite movies. Mostly we watch it as a drinking game, but we quote it frequently.

Amateurishly restored — 3 years ago

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

There are some interesting scenes put back into this extended version, but as a film it is far inferior to the original Lynch version. The additional materials has been edited in amateurishly, with a laughably cheesy narration threaded throughout the film, and a spectacularly B-movie style intro composed of hastily cut-together still paintings (replacing the already-cheesy Princess Irulan intro from the original). Watch the original first, so that you can appreciate the visionary elements of Lynch’s work, then watch this to fill in some of the gaps.
