WORTH CONSUMING!

Dark Knight takes place a scant month or so from the ending of Batman Begins, so it made sense to re-watch the first installment before heading to the cinema :)

A great, ‘reality’ reboot to the character, Batman Begins does exactly what it says on the tin: shows us Bruce Wayne’s past, why he turns himself into the Bat, and how he goes about it.

From a several-viewings-on point of view, the pre-Bat stuff does seem to take a long time to get to – although better than rushing to it, I suppose. And there’s no one big bad guy as such – or rather, no one big nutcase in a funny costume. Definitely looking forward to Dark Knight all the more, now!

WORTH CONSUMING!

OK, so the bad guys have a microwave emitter that vaporizes water in sewers, yet the humans that walk above the sewers are just fine, while the human body is made of 60% water.

WORTH CONSUMING!

Batman Begins, in my view is, so far, THE Batman film. I never understood the camp batman of Adam West. Batman is Gothic. You can’t get more away from Gothic than a camp Batman! lol. Can’t wait for the second movie. Hope the powers that be haven’t got into a panic and altered the late Heath Ledger’s work. From what I’ve of pics and trailers, Ledger’s Joker knocks the socks off of any Joker before him. That includes the camp Jack Nicholson one. Burton’s two Batman films were cool. They got crap after that, what with different directors. It started to go into something like cyber-punk. More lights! More colours! What a f**king mess.

WORTH CONSUMING!

I watch movies like Batman, Spiderman, and the like because my wife enjoys them. Personally, I’ve always thought them a bit cliche, unrealistic, and nerdy (this coming from a Trekkie). This movie is by the far the best I have ever seen from this genre, however. It was not predicatable and used realism to explain most things (although there had to be a few far fetched ideas).

As far as Holmes, I didn’t think she was that bad. Yes, her shy facade seemed a bit weak, but her characters actions were far from weak. Could she have been a little more believable? Yes; but I didn’t think she gave a bad performance either. Personally, I thought she fit the role, but I know nothing of the Batman-girl of the comics. (It helps that I have never seen her look more adorable).

I cannot review this movie from the typical “obedient to the philosophies of the original Batman” or through the conventions of the comic book mind, but from my perspective, I thought it was really good. (Good, but when the sequel comes out in July, I’ll be spending my movie money on the new X-Files <—nerd! ).

WORTH CONSUMING!

I loved this movie! I thought they jumped too quickly into getting Bruce out of jail and into training (pacing was too fast at the beginning) but otherwise I thought the pacing was good, with a good balance of action and character development.

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

I’m not a huge Christian Bale fan (I know, the shame), but I liked him in this movie. However, I couldn’t get past how aweful Katie Holmes character was. It was awful! Batman would never be attracted to someone so weak.

I may need to give it a second chance, however, because the Scarecrow was simply amazing…with a fast forward button it may be worth it, but as it stands, the time spent watching Holmes was not worth it.

WORTH CONSUMING!

For it’s screenplay alone I think, it certainly deserves to be consumed.

WORTH CONSUMING!

Finally got round to watching Batman Begins and it was great. A Batman movie that does justice to the comic. Wonderful. Great slow burning first half. Action packed second half. With a twist I didn’t guess. Great acting, wonderful direction.

Finally! The have captured the dark, trouble psyche of Bruce Wayne. Comes close to Frank Miller’s classic portrayl.
