Every so often I’ll go through a phase where I rent out an actor or director’s entire filmography; I’m in the middle of a Daniel Day-Lewis kick right now so I naturally had to pick up this film. The movie itself isn’t that remarkable or amazing or anything (it’s just a decent distraction to pass the time) but DD-L can motherfucking act and I’m so lost as to why he doesn’t do it more often. I’m crossing my fingers hoping his project with Paul Thomas Anderson pans out, ‘cause PTA + DD-L = ?.

Challenging film because it’s so unusual. But Daniel Day-Lewis and Catherine Keener give their usual very good performances.
This story about a father and teenage daughter coming to terms with inevitable changes to their commune lifestyle isn’t everyone’s cup of tea. It’s memorable, instead of forgettable, and that’s a nice change.
