How this changed my life — 30 weeks ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

I know I’m not usually one to be thankful for mainstream rock, but this one album changed my tastes in music forever. Before I heard them on the radio one day, all I ever listened to was mainstream radio style pop. But then when I was about 10 and heard ‘Bring Me To Life’ for the first time, I was inspired to find more good music like this. Up untill I was 12, Evanescence had been long forgotten, but in school one day, my friend’s sister sung ‘My Immortal’ on stage in a concert in front of the school. I loved the song as soon as I heard it, so I googled some of the lyrics that I remembered in hope of finding the song. Of course, as soon as the name ‘Evanescence’ showed up on my computer screen, I remembered ‘Bring Me To Life’ that I had heard a few years ago. I then became slightly obsessed with Evanescence for a while. Suddenly, it struck me that there might be similar bands that weren’t spoon fed to the public via mainstream radio. So I looked around on the internet for ‘similar’ bands. Of course, I got a lot of reccomendations, mostly for bands called Lacuna Coil and Nightwish. Up untill now, those two are my favourite bands. So yeah, I thank this album for showing me that there is more to music than mainstream radio, and I’m thankful that it introduced my to my current favourite bands.

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

My consumption of this was not by choice. My ex listened to it a lot, and those two songs were always on the radio…

I take issue with this being called goth. It isn’t. You want real goth? Try Rosetta Stone, Executive Slacks, Switchblade Symphony, anything but this. This is melodramatic, whiny pap.

There is some merit here. It’s not as if the woman can’t sing. She can. She oversings. She sounds as if she is pleading with the listener. And that rapper guy on that track…annoying. Very Linkin Park-ish…and I loathe Linkin Park.
