Better for a non desi — 5 years ago

For a two-week period in 2003, my friend Sheetal and I kept running into American women who had spent portions of their childhood in ashrams in India. This book sounded good, got rave reviews, and I picked it up for those reasons plus the desire to get into the minds of those young women we had each met 3 years ago.

The book was … probably better suited for a non-Indian looking in, rather than an Indian looking out. Some of her observations are acute, some of her facts are wrong, and only one part was laugh-out-loud funny (contrary to my expectations. Stupid reviewers!) (and that would be the Khizir part.) Desis — read at your own risk.
