A story about this — 2 years ago
I love the stories in this book. The book is composed of short anecdotes by cast, crew, writers and guests that have been apart of this show that has been on since 1975.
My favorite parts are definitely about Chevy Chase and the early years. “The inmates have taken over the asylum.” This weird great group of creative people doing something that had not been done before on television and just suddenly being on top of the world is amazing. The drugs, the sex, the gossip, and of course the comedy, it’s all so great.
This book sort of catapulted me into a weird obsession with Chevy Chase and I ended up reading a lot of books about Saturday Night Live and the biographies about the people involved, Like “Michael O’donoghue: the man who made comedy dangerous.” Really fantastic inappropriate comedian/ satirist.
This book is such an easy read because it is an oral history so it’s just short stories written as they were told by these people involved. You can read the stories one at at time but I found that once I got started it was hard to stop.
Really great read and I think I should read it again soon.
