During my initial wildland fire training, S130-190, one of our instructors (a huge man the size of a wall) begins his portion of the instructing booming “Who has read Young men and fire?” “A MUST READ IF YOU ARE GOING TO BE DOING THIS!”
Yes sir! I thought to myself and wrote down the name of this book and a few other “BETTER READ DAMN IT” books.
I read: Young men and fire, Fire on the Mountain: The True Story of the South Canyon Fire, on storm king Mtn by Pascucci (terrible book!), and Jumping Fire (best book ever in this girl’s opinion!).

A tremendous story of a tragedy that shaped fire fighting as practiced today. Stories of forest fires from my brother-in-law put the events it describes into even starker and sadder relief.
