A story about this — 16 weeks ago

I’m not quite sure how I feel about this book or how it ended. All I know is that I needed more answers, more revelations. It felt like this wasn’t the end. I did like the symbolism of good and evil in reference to the python and the apple in an ironic way. I like how Lemony S. was faithful in including Beatrice till the end.

My fave “anybody-can-relate-to-this” parts:

“It is one of the strange truths of life that practically nobody likes to be stared at and that practically nobody can stop themselves from staring.”

“If you live among people… then every moment of your life is an incident of peer pressure, and you cannot avoid it… And if you try to avoid every instance of peer pressure you will end up without any peers whatsoever…”

WORTH CONSUMING!

It doesn’t answer every question or solve every mystery, but I found the end of “The End” to be a very satisfying ending to a wonderfully entertaining series, which I have been reading for much of the past two months.

(I don’t know if anyone has mentioned this, but like all the best children’s literature, this series has some great jokes that only adults will get. In fact, some of the jokes require a knowledge of pop culture, classic literature, and Jewish culture. Nevertheless, you don’t have to get all the jokes to enjoy the series.)

In the end, the series is a wonderful meditation on good and evil, the nature of civilization, and the process of growing up. It’s very clear-eyed on all of these, without sugar-coating anything. Perfect for thoughtful children from ages 8 or 9 and up.

WORTH CONSUMING!

I read this book in only two days. When I got done with it I was sad bacause it was the end of the series. I totally thought that The Bau…I Probably shouldn’t tell or I will spoil the ending, teehee!!

This was a great book, I reccomend it to anyone who likes imagining things.

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

I felt continuosly frustrated, bored and annoyed with all the repetitive padding throughout the series but driven to finish it for some gratification that was always one more book away (read $$$). But it never came and this non sequitur of a final book left me thoroughly unsatisfied and disappointed. You can’t use the medias rea defense for bad planning. It seemed more like a contractual obligation ending. The promise of an goreyesque children’s series was appealing, but the end of the series was an unfortunate event.

WORTH CONSUMING!

The End wasn’t my favorite Lemony Snicket book because I really did expect for more questions to be answered. However, some loose ends were tied up, and some of my questions were answered, so ultimately I’ll say this book was worth consuming. The End did leave me wondering if there’s more of something in store though.

this is the end? — 5 years ago

There is absolutely no closure here! What happened to the Quagmires??? Unless there are sequels or spin offs i am very upset. Not Lemony’s finest hour.

WORTH CONSUMING!

My final ranking of the Series of Unfortunate Events are:

Book Eight, Book Two, Book Twelve, Book Five, Book Seven, Book Ten, Book Six, Book Nine, Book Four, Book One, Book Thirteen, Book Three, Book Eleven.

It’s a good book, with some events finally happening that one has waited 12 books to happen.

However, I really do not beleive this is the end of VFD or the Baudelaires. True, it is the end of the Series of unfortunate Events, but with all the loose ends and questions unanswered, surely Lemony Snicket has something else in the wings.

Worth Consuming, but just barely.

WORTH CONSUMING!

At last we arrive at the End of the Baudelaire’s comically tragic story. The denouement ties up most of the loose ends, but leaves a satisfactory number of them hanging, over which the reader can wonder & puzzle. Very finely done!
