While some albums are released to be nothing more than single-release objects, Takk… is a full album that can’t be cut into little pieces. It’s gotten a little flack for being too commercially acceptable (Really? Is this anything like what’s being played on the radio right now?) and derivative of older Sigur Rós albums (Okay, I can kind of see that). But this album has everything; it’s delicate in parts but uncomfortably loud in others, it’s alternately bizarre and plain, and it has beautiful melodies nestled in every song. If you’ve never listened to Sigur Rós before, this is the album to try. It captures the interest of middle-aged businessmen and jaded teenagers, music snobs and people who barely step out of the mainstream. Definitely recommended, but listen to it all the way through.
