Repeater: Garage Pop? — 4 years ago
Repeater was my first experience listening to Fugazi, and based on what I’ve read of the band I went in to it expecting a combination of Henry Rollins and Bad Religion. Rollins, yes; BR, no. Fugazi is definitely a DIY band; it sounds like it was recorded a fairly sparse little studio with the most basic equipment. But the songs really speak volumes: punk-influenced, but with some elements of pop and reggae as well. Some are straightforward with easy hooks, while others are more intricate without losing musicality. I think this is the kind of album I could have loved if I’d heard it in my teens; now I just really like it. I’d reccommend playing it for people who say they can’t get into punk music: this might be their gateway album.
Notable Tracks: Repeater; Greed; Shut The Door
