The language of the novel really is beautiful, but it didn’t seem to be about characters. Like the people didn’t matter. I know, it’s about the drum and tracing the drum’s history and how it may have impacted people, but when the setting switched from the present day at the very beginning to the past it lost me. That’s a shame because Erdrich has long been my favorite author.

a very interesting story with, again, her trademark beautiful language. pay attention, the characters are all related (literally and figuratively) to each other. also, the time frames are pretty fluid too. but otherwise, really nice novel. liked it a lot.

It’s just an advanced reader’s copy i got as a bonus for working in a bookstore, so i can read it before hand and when it comes out i can say, “i have read it and you should too!” :)
