Julianne Moore turns in a solid performance as the mother whose 9-yearold son has been “erased” from the world. The hook is compelling: Did her boy Sam ever exist? Is she delusional? Or is there something sinister going on? It’s the latter, of course, and the plot unfolds a bit slowly at first, gaining momentum until the twist is revealed. And it’s a big one: “Too much for your mind to handle.” I watched both the theatrical original and the extended version with an alternate ending. The former ends with a “bang” of sorts; the other ends with something of a “whimper.” They are different, yes, but not substantially so. Watch either one. I know this movie has been compared to the Sixth Sense, but it’s a notch lower in my estimation: 4 stars, not 5.

I only watched the extended version with alternate ending, so I don’t know how the theatrical cut was. But I liked it. Lots of twists to keep you on the edge of your seat.
