NOT WORTH CONSUMING

“Son of a Witch” just really didn’t live up to my expectations. I’ve always enjoyed Gregory Maguire’s books before, but this one just didn’t do it for me. Multiple passages I found myself re-reading just to understand. It was as if this was the sequel for the sake of having another book. Much was not resolved, and I really don’t feel like I got anywhere by reading it. This is the sort of book that you forget easily. I’ve marked it “not worth consuming”.

Not as dazzling or satisfying as "Wicked" ... — 3 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

... and the character of Liir kept frustrating me (I wanted to grab him by the shoulders and shake him until he did something with his life). But it’s still worth a read, and raises some interesting questions about people’s responsibilities.

I enjoyed it, but I think it would have been even better had I read Wicked. I’ll read that soon and then maybe reread this one.
