WORTH CONSUMING!

After watching “League of Extraordinary Gentlemen”, I was convinced “V for Vendetta” was going to be another brilliant work by Moore completely butchered by Hollywood. Probably due to my low expectations, I thought the movie was actually good. Still nowhere near the original, but not a steaming pile of ”#!$ that LOEG was.

I didn't expect to like this movie as much as I did — 2 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

I know I’m not supposed to say so, especially since I’ve never read the graphic novel, but I loved it anyway. I really did. I thought it was excellently done. Hugo Weaving is always a pleasure to see in action, and it’s good to know that’s true even when you can’t see his face. I could’ve done without Natalie Portman’s poor excuse for a British accent, though.

Scary to think a totalitarian regime like that isn’t such a far-fetched idea these days.

WORTH CONSUMING!

Can’t say it was disappointing since I didn’t expect much of it.
I reccomend you use your time for the graphic novel instead.

Satisfaction of seeing this “un-american” and politically incorrect novel made into a movie still made it worth it for me.

I hope it will inspire some people and get them to think.

WORTH CONSUMING!

A good action movie, a great political commentary.

Prior to seeing this movie, I had never thought of blowing shit up as an effective means of fixing societal problems.

Good job guys!

In its defense, though, it could be argued that the movie attempts to counter-act the demonising of “terrorists”, and get people to merely consider their point of view, to try to see some motive beyond the somewhat tired “they hate freedom” rhetoric we’ve all come to know and love. However, if that was the idea, it was far from obvious. The movie seems to actually condone terror attacks rather than trying to ask any questions.

If you’re looking for something with knives, explosions, and great special effects, then this is worth consuming. But if it’s the message behind a film that matters most to you, it would probably be better to skip it.

WORTH CONSUMING!

I went into this movie almost totally blind. The only thing I “briefed” myself with was a quick skim of Ebert’s review. The movie was NOT what I expected but I also enjoyed it for that very reason. I thought at times it was a bit self-indulgent (maybe that’s not even the right term), i.e. where he asks her dance, when she kisses the mask, etc. Except I wanted all of those things to happen and so I was happy that they did, but surprised because I didn’t think it was “that kind of movie”. I liked all of the talking. And did you ever stop to think—we see terrible things happen to our national monuments in movies but never really see these things happen to British things? So it was interesting to see everything that happened in this movie. #1 thing I was grateful for: she didn’t look under the mask.

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

I could write a lengthy review but this guy: http://www.allconsuming.net/entry/view/23265 already said most of it.

All I have to add is that I don’t see why this movie should take over two hours to tell its tale, and that I didn’t enjoy having the rather blunt ideas behind this movie shoved down my throat.

I haven’t read the graphic novels (remember back when we used to call them comics? good times!) but I hope they are better than this batch of hot air.

Some more fun tidbits? Alan Moore, co-creator of the “V For Vendetta” comic, has publicly disassociated himself from this movie project (which is based on the comic book and written and produced by the Wachowski Brothers). This actually speaks well for the comic. I might read it sometime.

From this page:
What Moore found most laughable however were the details. “They don’t know what British people have for breakfast, they couldn’t be bothered. ‘Eggy in a basket’ apparently. Now the US have ‘eggs in a basket,’ whish is fried bread with a fried egg in a hole in the middle. I guess they thought we must eat that as well, and thought ‘eggy in a basket’ was a quaint and Olde Worlde version. And they decided that the British postal service is called Fedco. They’ll have thought something like, ‘well, what’s a British version of FedEx… how about FedCo? A friend of mine had to point out to them that the Fed, in FedEx comes from ‘Federal Express.’ America is a federal republic, Britain is not.”

I’m a fan of the dystopia as a form of fiction – and I thought this made a great movie. Timely as well – the implications were unsubtle.

WORTH CONSUMING!

The cinematography was brilliant in this film. Great acting job by Portman and Weaving. Story of course never follows the book so don’t ever just assume it will. This movie was still well written, and the artist of the graphic novel was apart of the movie although the writer of the novel wanted nothing to do with this. His lost.
Warning, Kinda lengthy, but if you enjoy the movie it doesn’t matter how long it is, right?
What I recommend, watch the movie then read the graphic novel.

WORTH CONSUMING!

I came out of the theater thinking to myself…wow hollywood can still produce a good movie. I LOVED this.I wanted to go back in immediatly and watch it again. This is worth every penny. The cinematography is amazing the film is in depth.. the characters are so believable. This is an awesome piece of work.Dont wait..go see it as soon as you can and be blown away just like i was. The political part of it is incredibly in parallel with our current world. The uprising was and is a fundamental part of the movie.. the awakening of a nation to the horrors a government like that can inflict on its nation …with the premise of helping and protecting… meanwhile invading your personal life and choices and ultimatly trying to package it all up in a religious justification that is rife through and through with lies… as anyone with any brain power would think also. Comendable…Amazing….Stunning… I cannot say enough about this !

WORTH CONSUMING!

Good movie. Yet again, I got to go to a preview before official release in New Zealand through a guy at work (his partner is the Marketing Manager [or something] for Village Roadshow – so I often get free tix to sneak previews). I really did enjoy this. It’s got some cool special effects, I like the concept of the story (deep down I’m sure there’s a conspiracy theorist/activist in me somewhere), and of course, it’s got Natalie Portman in it.

WORTH CONSUMING!

I went into V for Vendetta not expecting much (I hadn’t yet read the graphic novel), because it was advertised as another mindless Hollywood action movie.

But I was wrong. It was deep. It was artistic. It was so full of symbols I didn’t catch all of them I’m sure, even the second time around. The message is true and stirring. The acting is amazing.

This is a movie everyone should see: it certainly brings you to think that our society is only a couple of steps away from what the movie portrays.

It’s a thinking movie. Wonderfully done. I love it!!!

it’s a well crafted film. however it might have been more interesting, fresher, if the wachowski brothers released it back in the 90’s when they first adapted the comic book.

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

It was a good movie but the ending needed some help. I won’t give it away but something wasn’t revealed that required some explanation. Maybe they’ll have a sequel and fix that. shrug

WORTH CONSUMING!

I have to preface this by saying I have never read the “graphic novel” (God, I hate that term. They’re comic books, accept it and move on.) so I can’t say whether the movie does justice to the source material or not. What I can say is the movie was well made and very enjoyable. Hugo Weaving, whom I’ve never been a big fan of, is amazing and I think the big reason for me is the fact I couldn’t see him. Vocally he’s a very good actor, but his facial expressions and physical mannerisms drive me nuts. That, however, is for another post. Everyone in the movie is excellent. It’s very well acted and the script, while a bit clunky in its dialogue, is very thought-provoking. Thumbs up from me!
