Great, fun movie! I kept putting off watching this movie because of its length – 3,5 hours! But honestly I didn’t even notice it was that long. The pacing is fast enough so you stay entertained. Farming villagers, each with their own specialty, coming together to fight their oppressors against the odds: I was vaguely reminded of Seven Samurai (…but with cricket instead of samurai, naturally).

I knew nothing about the rules of cricket, even so this was the first time I ever watched any sports game from the tip of my seat. And our hero even got the girl I was rooting for – I enjoyed Lagaan all the way.

For those who lament the waning of the Busby Berkley Hollywood musical, Bollywood has got your back. Very lush movie, especially considering the relative poverty of some of the main characters. It is easy to see why Great Britain lost the part of their empire on which the sun never sets that is called India if some of the British characters in this film are true to type.

Look it was OK but I don’t know if any movie ever needs to be more than three and a half hours long….
