A review of this — 3 years ago
Awhile ago I was listening to a review on NPR of the Sergio Mendes remix album produced by Wil.I.Am and the Herb Alpert’s Tijuana Brass remix album of “Whipped Cream.” Initally, when I heard a few of the singles off of the Sergio Mendes album, I was very excited and couldn’t wait to by it. I have yet to purchase that album but I did listen to it here at the library and I have to say…I do not love it. The reviewer on NPR talked about not having the original music get lost in the new remix, which is what happens in Wil.I.Am’s take on Sergio Mendes, however, that is not the case with “Rewhipped.” John King (of the Dust Brothers), DJ Foosh, Mocean Worker, Thievery Corporation, Anthony Marinelli and Ozomatli, Medeski Martin & Wood, and Camara Kambon, take the originals and enhance them into something new but you can still hear that they appreciate the originals. If you haven’t gone out and bought this cd/vinyl/MP3 yet, I think you should. You can still hear the original without becoming overwhelmed by what the other artists have brought in.
