Troy is a war movie that you’ll probably forget very soon after watching. There are however some notable things about it:
- the cool shots of 1,000 ships or 50,000 soldiers
- the nice portrayal of how stupid it is to make strategical decisions based on religion (at some point a priest claims that a bird flying with a snake in its claws is a sign from the gods and Hector asks “Are we going to attack the Greeks based on a bird?!”)
- the somewhat subtle atheism sprinkled throughout the movie, especially by Achilles (he destroys Apollo’s statue but lo and behold, Apollo doesn’t strike him; or he tells Brisseis that it’s not humans who envy the gods, but the gods envy the humans exactly because of their mortality, which leads sense to their struggle)
