Why I recommend this — 26 weeks ago
This is the “bad” Bogart at his best. The story works on many levels, as a condemnation of greed and materialism, as a fine piece of drama with superb acting, and as a testament to the Oscar-winning Hustons, John (screenplay, director) and Walter (supporting actor). It’s hard for me to believe I had never seen this till now, but I’m glad I got the two-disc set. The bonus feature about the making of the film is almost as interesting as the movie itself. By all means, see this. It’s also the source of the line, “Badges? We don’t need no badges. We ain’t got no stinkin’ badges.”
