A difficult film to judge. Do you applaud its successful fimmaking techniques, or do you disdain it due to its disturbingly raw content? Either way, you can’t complain of its inferiority as a remake because it’s a shot for shot copy of the 1997 German language film. The only difference is the subsitution of American actors. Whatever your opinion, the film does accomplish what it was meant to do, confront the viewer, and perhaps even inform him/her in the process. Uncomfortable it is, boring it may be, but entertaining it certainly is not, at least not in the way we enjoy other violent films. However it is a worthy watch, for what it does and is in my opinion.
