A big twist at the end surprised me, and – as always – I was completely engaged in the story, but it seems like EJD is getting a little hmmm pretentious with his writing style. It’s too flowery for his gritty, realistic storylines. Doesn’t match. I’m a little tetchy about his much-overused dialogue gimmick of writing sentences without any real opener; instead of, say, “I wish it would stop raining. I need to go to the store today.” he’ll write “Wish it would stop raining. Need to go to the store today.” Does anyone TALK like this 24/7? It drives a grammar nazi like me CRAZY.

I’ve read every single book he’s written, and they’re always good. He has a way of writing that makes you actually care about the characters and what happens to them.
