A gruesome (realistic?) rendition of the American War in Vietnam, We Were Soldiers is made corny by Mel Gibson’s religious character. Not a top choice in the War category of movies, but recommended for completists.

I did love Sam Elliott’s character in this movie, and there were some other good moments. Overall, though, I just didn’t like this one.
i dream a lot of wars so i tend to gravitate towards war movies. not so much a fan of this one. not a huge mel gibson fan so that could have something to do with it. did like greg kinnear’s character.
The movie has some good moments, but it dragged a lot in the middle. It’s simply not as good as some others.
