WORTH CONSUMING!

Some guy I met at BN recommended this book, even though Amazon recommended it to me before him. It’s a really good book and I would recommend to any kid at a bookstore I might meet.

WORTH CONSUMING!

Been wanting to read this for ages. It sounds intriguing, very unique. AFTER: Amazing book. The end kind of leaves it to the reader to decide if Pi’s story is fact or fiction, which is an interesting turn.

L liked it… and I really enjoyed it, too. It had a great ending, as well.

So long as you can stick through the painfully dogmatic religious explanations early on, it’s a great read.

WORTH CONSUMING!

Nice read. Interesting weaving of concerns we deal with in daily life, yet set in such a fantastical setting – with a shipwrecked boy and a Bengali tiger (my fave) on a single lifeboat!

Loads of laudable humour & subtly inspiring moments. Here’s a sample (Remember this?):

“It got to be that after a few times the boys sang along with me, a crescendo that climaxed, after a quick intake of air while I underlined the proper note, with such a rousing rendition of my new name that it would have been the delight of any choirmaster. A few boys followed up with a whispered, urgent “Three! Point! One! Four!” as I wrote as fast as I could, and I ended the concert by slicing the circle with such vigour that bits of chalk went flying."

(pp. 29 – 32, where Pi rechristens himself with his famous namesake)

This book is magical, it totally makes you live the story with the character.

A beautiful book. Loved every moment of it.

WORTH CONSUMING!

It’s rare that you find a book so incredibly quotable on every page.

Great book in the end. I thought it dragged a little in the begining, but all in all, great.

Oh, wow. A very good book. The twist at the end really got me. I feel a bit like the Japanese investigators who were interviewing Pi.

A very fine survival tale with enjoyable Indian-flavored details.

Excellent writing, except for one chapter that I had a hard time getting through. I don’t feel that I “got it” though.

WORTH CONSUMING!

A very good read. Flights of imagination that fails only in one place according to me, everyhting in the book except the carnivorous algae island seemed very plausible.

The first part made me think of other books i have read. books written by Inidans in English. was wondering what was a big deal about all the hype surrounding this books. the only difference was that this was written by a foreigner who had to learn our culture, esp.the south Indian way of life, which most of the outsiders dont get to see or experience normally.

but! then, i reached part two of the story. and boy! was i in for an adventure. :) i have cread a few book excerts in readers digest and some of them talk abt how the authors survuved in the sea.

This part is similar at the same time very different from those books. i dont want to describe things and spoil the fun.

the story of pi’s survival is followed by a short story he recited to couple of japanese men, who refused to believe what he originally said. this insipid watered down version makes the sandwiched section all the more interesting.

this is a book, i wouldnt mind reading again and again.

My sister told me that this needed to be the next book that I read, and that it was one of the best books she had ever read. Quite a demand and statement from someone who has read as widely as my sister. Yet now that I’m in to and hooked, I see her point. It’s been a while since I’ve had such pure enjoyment from reading – Barbara Kingsolver’s books usually do it, as did “Peace Like A River”. This is another one that I don’t want to end.

It didn’t make me believe in god, but it did make me laugh, and it did move me, it did hold me in thrall, it made me wish it wouldn’t end.

This is the kind of book that makes me want to contact the author and say, “Nice work!”

I bought this book because of the all the positive feedback from friends and other sources. Three-quarters of the way through, I still didn’t quite understand what was so marvelous about it, but as I read the last several pages, I got it. I don’t think this book quite lives up to its hype, but it’s still better than most others.

I finished this book off in three sittings – I found it absorbing and entertaining. A fun, fantastical storyline, with an ending that had me turning the pages back to the begining.
