Looking for a wonderful romantic comedy? Christopher Walken and Sissy Spacek play the Webbers, a trapped-in-1962 professor and his wife, just beautifully in this “Rip van Winkle” sort of tale. The fun begins when their son Adam (Brendan Fraser) emerges at age 35 from their “home,” the fallout shelter he was born in. His home schooling has included fluency in French, boxing skills, social graces and the lyrics to Perry Como tunes. He meets Eve (Alicia Silverstone) as he tries to sell some vintage baseball cards in a shop where she works. Together they seek provisions for his parents and the shelter, which by 1999 has been built upon many times. He also enlists her help to find him a girlfriend. There is a brilliant dance scene with Adam and two hot blondes. Eve gets jealous, of course, because she’s falling for him. Lots of laughs along the way to happy ending. I really enjoyed this.
