Wow! I just love the fractured take on old familiar fairytales, the exploration of the under-the-surface darkness that all of us sense in them, even when they’ve been Disnefied and sanitized for a new generation of children needing protection from the dark. I love that the women are strong and wiley and clever. I love that things get turned on their head. I love that the fables are living among us, or not quite. I will be looking for more of this series.

Though published a good 3 years after the title began newcomers to Fables can start here and get an excellent tutorial into the world of Fables. Or it’s a great supplement for someone like me who’se not read the series in quite some time and forgot where these guys left off.

Plus it’s a Who’s Who of almost anyone who has ever worked on the series.
