WORTH CONSUMING!

I haven’t read the book and I wasn’t particularly looking forward to seeing the film so it came as a pleasant surprise. Improved acting from the younger cast members, a tighter storyline and touches of darkness. Looking forward to the next one.

WORTH CONSUMING!

Worth it, but I admit I was disappointed. They cut so much out (which I knew they would have to do, but they hacked the meat of the story out, too) and it just didn’t feel right.

WORTH CONSUMING!

So here’s the thing: all of the Harry Potter books have a predictable formula. The stories are not different enough in themselves – the details are the fun part. Rowling’s good at decorating her plot (singular). And of course this creates a problem when paring down a book for a screenplay; one ends up with more plot than decoration. In other words, I feel like I’ve seen this movie three times before.

That being said, I did enjoy it. Most of the parts I felt were flawed (the conspicuous tardiness of global awareness in the wizarding world, for example), were things that bothered me in the books as well. And clearly there’s a “give the people what they want” attitude here and there that makes little sense (i.e., lots of random Weasley Twins moments).

Right, I was trying to say that I enjoyed it. I did. I even felt some chest constriction after a certain character’s death. Overall, I wish I could give it a “worth consuming” sans exclamation point.

WORTH CONSUMING!

I liked this film although I did notice that the flow was a little choppy in sections. It just seemed like they didn’t do the best job editing the scenes together to give the movie good flow, but I can understand where it might be too difficult to adapt such a long book into a movie suitable for children. I would recommend reading the book over seeing the movie.

WORTH CONSUMING!

I was surprised by how well they adapted the mammoth book for a 2.5 hr movie. The only thing I really missed was the presence of Mrs Weasley, as it meant they cut out one of my favourite scenes of this story. But all in all, it was fantastic and on a par with POA.

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

I haven’t read any of the HP books and only went to the movie because friends wanted to.

What a boring load of crap. It’s not even a full story: it starts of with a competition, then the ultimate bad guy (apparently, I thought he was rather naff) shows up, there is a minor showdown but noone really got hurt (a side character died, big deal) and then the credits roll. WTF?

Everyone was rather disappointed. It was a long movie but didn’t really start or finish. All in all I’d give it a miss.

WORTH CONSUMING!

Not having read the books, I enjoyed this movie a lot. Fun, imaginative adventure, well told. And I’m amazed at how they cut the book down and didn’t loose this viewer who hasn’t read it yet.

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

How about the blatant sexism and racial undertone of this movie?

WORTH CONSUMING!

I didn’t have really high expectations and I don’t remember the book all that well, but I enjoyed the movie. The production value was good, it was entertaining, it was all I asked for. It seems to me it’s as good as the previous three movies.

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

Those people who said it was the best movie yet (just like they said about PoA, mind you) are in SERIOUS denial. The only parts that were well done was anything having to do with Voldemort (i.e. the Death Eaters, the graveyard scene, etc.) and the hottness of Cedric Diggory. Other than that I was disappointed just like I was with PoA.

Each book has an amazing plot written for the screenplay writers. All they need to do is to decide what goes and what stays. They don’t need to change the plot around. The problem with all the Harry Potter movies is they’ll change something around and then they have to compensate for what they changed in the next movie therefore they keep getting more and more screwed up.

I look at making books into movies as a way of confirming my imagination. Putting a face to a character or showing me a setting that I couldn’t exactly imagine. And when they take away characters or bits of the plot it just ruins it for me. There is a reason why Rowling put everything in there that she did and I think the screenplay writers need to respect that.

And the fact they add unecessary stuff in and can’t even keep the REAL stuff in makes me mad even more. Hogwarts is a school of Witchcraft & Wizardry. It is NOT a regular school therefore there is NO reason to put in choirs with singing toads and marching bands. Stuff like that just ruins it for me.

Besides, there is NO excuse to cut things when Return of the King was almost 4 hours long. I mean you would think with the money they’ve made from the last 3 movies they could afford to make it better. Not just jump through a billion chapters and still cut stuff out and add stuff where it doesn’t belong.

They’ve officially ruined Harry Potter movies and need to stop making them. I don’t think I will go see OotP. I tried to give GoF a fair chance (I saw it twice) but I’d have to say the soundtrack was much better than the movie itself. Save a movie ticket, buy the soundtrack. You’ll be glad you did.

WORTH CONSUMING!

The book is big, so it’s no surprise that the movie is about 2.5hrs long. Nor is it a surprise that it felt Really Rushed through a lot of the film. I think if I hadn’t read the book first, I wouldn’t’ve missed much. Knowing what to expect really alters the experience for me, though.
I saw the first 2 movies before I started reading the series. I think that is largely why those are still my favourite films of the series, while I think the books get progressively better as they go. Still, I cried at the movie. And I absolutely loved it.

P.S. It also hurts that I don’t like the new dumbledore. I think he’s too … hard-edged? I miss Richard Harris.

Certainly a lot darker than any of the previous movies. Slightly disappointed the house elf’s didn’t make an appearance as they had in the book.

It was good, but I have to admit that it was the first one that I saw and I haven’t read the books, so I think that it would be better for fans. Nothing really wrong with it, but it didn’t really blow me away.

WORTH CONSUMING!

I really liked it, and Voldemort is exactly the way that I pictured him. I also liked all of the PG-13 elements that were put in the movie, and the dragon. Of course, since no movie can every be truly faithful to the book some parts were left out, which were a little disappointing, but they didn’t leave out enough to ruin the movie.
